Author Guidelines

  • Please include your institution, area of study (optional), and year of study at the top of your submission document
  • Author education level required: undergraduate student or recent graduate (within 2–3 years). N.B. The work must be of an undergraduate level
  • Citations must follow MLA format
  • If there are Italian terms and quotations in an English article, please provide an English translation. Please follow the example shown in the Sample document
  • Please copy and paste your Works Cited into the References field when you submit your paper in OJS

IMAGE REQUIREMENTS

  • If you are using an image in your article that you did not create yourself, you must ensure that the image is licensed for use; if it isn’t, you must seek permission from the copyright owner
  • If you use images in your article (including charts), you must include a text alternative to help visually impaired readers understand the meaning of the image. You can do this in two ways:
    • By using Alternative (Alt) Text to summarize the image. In recent versions of Microsoft Word, you can right-click the image to view and edit the image’s Alt Text, or you should see buttons in the image formatting menu
    • By describing the content of the image and its importance for your argument in the text of your article

AI

  • AI & Authorship Policy
    • Pensiero does not condone the use of generative AI models to produce submissions. All work submitted to the journal must reflect the author’s original ideas, effort, and intellectual engagement. All submissions are reviewed by the editorial team with attention to originality, intentional and thoughtful communication of ideas, and meaningful engagement with Italian language, culture, or related themes.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration
  • Submit anonymous manuscripts (no author names or affiliations in the file)
  • The text is double-spaced, Times New Roman, 12-point font, with 1 inch margins
  • The text adheres to the requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines
  • The submission file is in Microsoft Word format
  • Research Articles follow MLA style
  • Include: institution, area of study of author (optional), and year of study at the top of the submission
  • 150-200 word Abstract in English and Keywords for Research Articles
  • The work is a maximum of roughly 6,000 words including a Works Cited for Research Articles or 1,500 words for Creative Writing Pieces

Research Articles

  • 150-200 word Abstract in English and Keywords
  • 1,500 word minimum - 6,000 word maximum (including citations)
  • Style: Times New Roman, 12 pt, double-spaced, 1-inch margins
  • Submit anonymous manuscripts (no author names in the file)
  • A full Works Cited following MLA style
  • Edited for grammar, syntax, and structure

  • 1,500 word maximum
